Dymista Nasal Spray is a combination treatment used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including hay fever and year-round allergies. It contains two active ingredients: azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine, and fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid. Together, these ingredients provide dual-action relief from common allergy symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, a runny or itchy nose, and watery or irritated eyes. Dymista may be prescribed for adults and children aged 6 years and over and, in some cases, is available without a prescription depending on local guidance.
Allergic rhinitis occurs when the immune system reacts to allergens such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander. This reaction causes the release of histamine and other inflammatory substances, leading to swelling and irritation inside the nasal passages. The antihistamine component, azelastine, works by blocking the action of histamine, helping to reduce symptoms like sneezing and itching. The corticosteroid component, fluticasone propionate, targets the underlying inflammation by reducing swelling in the nasal lining.
